Here And Now Improv Drop-In

This Meetup is for improvisers of all levels. Beginners are welcome!
The Emotional Dynamic we have with our scene partner is the most important. We don't have to be funny or clever. We don't have to follow the so called "rules" of improv, such as "Yes, and" and establishing the Who, What, and Where at the beginning of the scene. We will explore doing scenes mindfully and with intention, exploring concepts such as Point Of View, Beats of the Scene, Viewpoints that will make scenes that are grounded, focused, and emphasize the emotional dynamic that we have with our scene partners.
We will begin with exercises to get us out of our heads and into the present moment. We will then do exercises and scenes for two or more persons. We will frequently conclude with group scenes or even a short-form game.

Community Night

Come join us for Flipside's first Community Night!
Community Night is a free event that features food, fun and supporting local improvisers and those interested in improv. We'll open the doors at 5:15pm for our potluck on the business side of the Flipside, then move to the theatre side for a student showcase, a jam, and potentially building community teams that could be selected to perform at our What the Flipside variety show on fourth Fridays, Get to know others in your own comedy back yard!

All ages welcome. Performers create and perform their own material; the views expressed on stage are those of the performer and not necessarily those of Flipside Theatre.

No singing experience? No problem! This fun, low-pressure workshop uses easy, team-driven exercises to help you create simple melodies and catchy lyrics on the spot. Musical improv is one of the fastest ways to add emotion and depth to your characters and scenes—and you’ll be amazed at how quickly it clicks. Come ready to laugh, learn, and leave humming your own hilarious creations.

Got a half-baked sketch idea? A weird scene you've been dying to test? Bring it to Piffle Playground at Flipside Theatre!
Drop-in and bring notebooks, laptops, and your wildest ideas. Come for the chaos. Stay for the creativity.
Feel free to bring your lunch. Drinks, popcorn and candy are available for sale at concessions.
This event takes place on the first Sunday of every month. Sketch ideas generated as part of the sketch program may be performed at Flipside Theatre
Leap Into Mask
June 6, 2pm - 5pm
Flipside Theatre | 502 Center Dr., Suite M, Superior CO 80027
This three-hour workshop is a playful dive into the world of mask performance, based on the work of Sears Eldredge. It’s about learning to let go of self-consciousness and discovering what happens when you stop trying to perform and start allowing yourself to become the creature behind the mask. We’ll explore the many characters that live inside you, practice juggling awareness between yourself, the mask, and the audience, and learn how to let the image of the mask move through your whole body. Along the way, you’ll start to notice that critical inner voice that wants to keep you safe (and boring) and practice setting it aside so something unexpected can happen. The work is physical, strange, and funny in the best way—it’s about getting out of your own way and seeing what shows up when you do.

IMPROVISOR/ACTORS and MUSICIANS Needed for NEW Playback Theatre Company!
Playback Theatre at Flipside is looking for improvisor/actors and musicians to create a new Playback Theatre company. Playback theater is an improvisational theater form that is done all over the world. Audience members tell their true stories and then the team members play the stories back instantly. Not just oriented towards humor, stories might be amusing or they could be challenging, ordinary, or profound. To playback the stories we use a group of diverse skills: improvised scenes; monologues from the perspective of a person, place or thing in the story, abstract movement, poetry, metaphor and pieces of cloth that become costumes and props.

Summer sketch show auditions: June 14 - 12pm - 3pm!

Audition to be part of the summer sketch show! The show is planned for July 31, Aug 1 and Aug 2.
Performers will be grouped into cohorts of 4-5 actors. Scripts will be provided. Feel free to arrive early if you would like to warm up with your cohort and review the scripts. They may be scripts you are familiar with.
REHEARSALS - Sundays 7/12 12p-3p, 7/19 12p-3p, 7/26 11a-3p
DRESS REHEARSAL - Thursday 7/30 7pm
PERFORMANCES - Friday 7/31 7pm, Saturday 8/1 7pm, Sunday 8/2 3pm
Additional Details:
The theatre is ADA accessible and has 2 single-person restrooms.
A portion of the profits from the show will be paid out to performers. This payment will be based on ticket sales, so it is in your best interest to promote the show broadly :-)
If not cast, and you would be interested in helping with tech, costumes, house management etc, please indicate this in the notes.
